Sunriver or Bend for Retirement?
Sunriver is a wonderful place to vacation. Do you want to live there year round?
One of the biggest differences between Sunriver and Bend is winter. Sunriver sits about 500 feet higher than Bend and, as a result, it snows more in Sunriver. Those beautiful snowy scenes look a little different when you have to go out and shovel day after day!
Then think about your ordinary Tuesday. How often will you want to drive into Bend for healthcare, shopping, restaurants, classes, cultural events and other things you like to do?
Think about your neighbors. Sunriver has a significant vacation rental market, and summer brings a large influx of visitors. If you're planning to live there full time, consider whether you'd be comfortable living near homes with a constant rotation of vacationers.
Of course, those same characteristics may be exactly what you're looking for. If your ideal retirement involves being surrounded by recreation and resort amenities, Sunriver may suit you beautifully.
The real question isn't which place is better.
Do you want to live in the same area where you vacation, for all of the same reasons?
